--- DID YOU KNOW?
Rascal stems from rascaile, "people of the lowest class, rabble of an army," and from the Old French rascaille "outcast, rabble."
The term rascal is more often than not applied to children, although some adults can qualify by virtue of their behaviour. We expect adults to "act their age." However, children and animals can sometimes be cute and endearing even when they cause trouble.
Raccoons, which are known to be a nuisance, are a classic example of the rascal in the animal world. The residents of an apartment building in Oklahoma in the United States discovered this once when they found two baby raccoons inside a softdrink machine.
The raccoons were apparently thirsty after a long search for food and found themselves locked inside the cold machine. The residents tried to get them out, but were unsuccessful. Someone then got the idea to call a local animal expert, the so-called "skunk whisperer." Together with a repairman who took the machine apart, he managed to free the two raccoons and transport them to an animal shelter.
