WORD ORIGIN
Pick-up line combines two words: pick-up, which is slang for making a casual acquaintance with someone in anticipation of having a relationship with them, and line, which is slang for a witty comment.

Creating good pick-up lines is an art, and a difficult one at that. Men in particular have been searching for the ultimate pick-up line from time immemorial. And as far as we know, it has yet to be discovered. That’s not to say there aren’t some good ones out there, as well as some really horrid ones.

But finding the verbal elixir that makes a woman swoon on command is a challenge on par with discovering the fountain of youth.

Some examples:

- Excuse me, I seem to have lost my phone number. Could I borrow yours?

- Do you believe in love at first sight, or shall I walk by again?

- Excuse me, do you kiss strangers? No? Well, let me introduce myself.

- I'm new in town. Could you give me directions to your apartment?

- Do you have a map? I keep getting lost in your eyes.

- The only thing your eyes haven't told me is your name.

- How do you like your eggs in the morning, scrambled or sunny side up?
