done and dusted idiom
- to be complete and finished
(Cambridge Dictionary)
--- One of the more interesting but fanciful theories regarding the origin of the expression "done and dusted" is that it stems from the world of writing. According to a member of the staff at the Hindu newspaper, the phrase originated during the time when people wrote with ink and pen.
In order to make the ink dry quicker, some people sprinkled dust or powder on the paper, then "dusted" it off once the ink was dry. There is no evidence that "done and dusted" stemmed from the days of quill pens however. More than likely, it derives from house cleaning, such as in dusting the furniture.
