Do you ever insert foreign words into your English or German sentences? I certainly do, often without thinking, e.g.

- “It was WANDERLUST that brought me to Bavaria many years ago.”

- “We’re happy to support this project PRO BONO.”

- “I’m having a strong DÉJÀ VU feeling at the moment.”

- “GUTEN TAG, Jim! How’s the weather on your side of the pond?”  

- “REALLY SORRY, Ich bin in einem Gespräch und kann Ihren Anruf nicht entgegennehmen.”

Sometimes, a foreign word can do a better job than any translation, and sometimes it’s just refreshing to spice-up one’s speech,… aber ACHTUNG!

“Unser Way of Life im Media Business ist hart, da muss man ein tougher Kerl sein. Morgens warm-up und Stretching, dann ein Teller Cornflakes und ein Soft Drink oder Darjeeling Tea, dann in das Office - und schon Brunch mit den Top Leuten…. da sagte der Old Man wir hätten eine faire Chance, unser Image zu verbessern. Wer nicht up-to-date ist, wird gekillt, that’s life. Nur eines macht mich total crazy - Diese schrecklichen Anglizismen in unserer schönen deutschen Sprache”
