“There are concerns over incidents such as the border ‘BUMRUSH’ in Texas in March and tensions between migrants and the Border Patrol, … they’re getting fingerprinted and then they’re being released even though they’re inadmissible; but it doesn’t constitute something that would be called an invasion, in our opinion.”

Rafael Bernal — The Hill (23rd March 2024)

“The BUMRUSH for the store’s Stanley supply (of a limited-edition pink, Stanley Valentine’s Day collection cup) was also documented on TikTok at the time. Some users reported long lines and posted photos of signs about purchasing limits from Target.”

Joseph Lamour — Today (9th January 2024)

WORD ORIGIN

The etymology of "bumrush" can be traced back to the term "bum's rush”, which originated in the United States in the early 20th century. It refers to the forcible ejection of someone, such as a vagrant or hobo (tramp), from an establishment. It was first recorded around 1911.

The term "bumrush" later evolved in the 1980s to mean a sudden, forceful entry or attack, often associated with a stampede of people during a police raid. The term gained popularity in the hip-hop community, particularly after the release of Public Enemy's 1987 album "Yo! Bum Rush the Show”, which contributed to its widespread use as a verb meaning to charge or rush at something with force.

Today, "bumrush" can be used both literally (e.g., a crowd bumrushing a stage) and metaphorically (e.g., bumrushing into a meeting or conversation). The word often implies an element of surprise and forcefulness.
