TALKING POINT
In the state of Michigan on December 8th, 2015, facebook messages between schoolchildren encouraging that pajamas be worn inside-out and backwards, that ice cubes be flushed down toilets, and spoons be placed under bed pillows. Why? To conjure up a snow day, so students could see their school closed and have the day off.
The next day a snow day did actually occur and schools were closed on December 9th.
Word quickly spread, and more kids joined in the ritual that night — wearing pajamas backwards, flushing ice cubes, and placing a spoon under pillows. Students awoke to another snow day, as schools were closed again December 10th.
Just before bedtime on December 10th social media was abuzz about the “Snow Day Superstition” - which sadly fell on deaf ears - the snow gods were not listening this time, and schools were reopened next day on December 11th.
Whether the weather be fine
Or whether the weather be not,
Whether the weather be cold
Or whether the weather be hot,
We'll weather the weather
Whatever the weather,
Whether we like it or not.
