Repatriate is from the Late Latin repatriatus, past participle of repatriare to go back to one's country. It first appeared in English in 1611.

Main meaning : to restore or return to the country of origin, allegiance, or citizenship (i.e. repatriate prisoners of war)

Related to repatriate is the noun "expatriate" which translates rather inelegantly as

"ständig im Ausland lebende Person".
