Though Hollywood produces dozens of films every year, many more projects LANGUISH in a state of turnaround (or 'development hell') for months or years before being scrapped.

Indeed, some time after the release of "All the President's Men" and "Marathon Man," Goldman further explained the reason he was a "hot" property in Hollywood. "It has to do with two things," he declared. "Some of the films have been successful, but more important, they have been made."

Goldman, William (1931-    ) American novelist and screenwriter.

After the breakup of his 27-year marriage, William Goldman became the only man ever to judge both the Cannes Film Festival and the Miss America Pageant in the same year, spending three weeks surrounded by beautiful women on the exotic beaches of the French Riviera - and on the not-so-exotic beaches of Atlantic City. Goldman later recounted his experiences in "Hype and Glory."
