The one mistake I didn't mention is creating a powerful brand message THAT DOESN’T JIVE with the reality of the brand experience.

Did you know?
to jive with (alternate form of jibe) colloquial phrasal verb
- if one statement or opinion jibes with another, it is similar to it and matches it
(Cambridge Dictionaries)
--- In the phrase "to jive with," jive is a misspelling of "jibe," making it one of the most misused words in the English language. Jive is actually defined as:
- a fast dance that was very popular with young people in the 1940s and 1950s (used as noun and verb)
- talk that has no meaning or is dishonest (also used as a noun and verb: Don’t give me that jive! You’re jiving me!)
Jibe on the other hand means:
- to be in accord; to agree
- a sailing term that means to shift a fore-and-aft sail from one side of a vessel to the other while sailing before the wind so as to sail on the opposite tack
A Google search of "that doesn’t jive" and "that doesn’t jibe" produces approximately 6 million and 2 million hits respectively, further evidence that English sometimes takes on a life of its own.
