phubbing
noun, combination of phone and snub

- the act of ignoring somebody while using your mobile phone

(MacMillan Dictionaries)

Phubbing, a blend of PHone and SNUB (jmd. brüskieren, abweisen), refers to the (impolite) habit of ignoring people in a social setting by looking at, or using a mobile phone.

The rise of phubbing has led to anti-phubbing campaigns that are encouraging people to fight back against this social phenomenon, and of course, there are a multitude of online courses and apps to help you control online or mobile phone addiction!

The idea behind the app SwitchKick was to use peer pressure – or what the developers called “social support" - to earn points by for staying away from your phone. SwitchKick failed to get funding.

Maybe the answer is an old-fashioned social contract with a spouse or good friend, and sealed with a simple, analogue handshake :-)
