Being a hubby is sometimes not easy, as these abstracts from "odd news from around the world" illustrate:

A Florida woman was arrested and accused of throwing a potted basil plant at her husband during an argument about his cooking. According to the police report, the 52-year-old woman arrived home while her 60-year-old hubby was preparing food in the kitchen. "They then began to argue about what type of meat was supposed to be cooked," the police report states. The husband told police he was walking away from his wife when she threw the basil plant, which struck his left shoulder.

A man was charged with intentionally driving his 1987 Ford pick-up truck through a Waffle House restaurant in Florida. According to the Panama City Beach police, the man tried to run over his wife, a Waffle House waitress, and ended up smashing into the restaurant — which happened to be right across the road from the Panama City Beach Police Department.

Florida seems to be an unlucky place to be a hubby, but our favourite story comes from Egypt where a woman filed for divorce after she learnt her husband was the better cook. Mohammed Said, chef at a Cairo hotel, surprised his family by his decision to cook supper for them at the beginning of Ramadan. However, the couple's sons loved their father's cooking so much that they demanded he cook for them every night, which made the woman seek divorce.

Etymology: husband stems from the Old English husbonda "male head of a household," which likely came from the Old Norse husbondi "master of the house," from hus "house" + bondi "householder, dweller, freeholder, peasant."
