workaround
noun

- a method for overcoming a problem or limitation in a program or system

(Oxford Dictionary)

---
Around is a multi-purpose adverb and preposition found in numerous idioms, phrases and expressions. The Random House Dictionary lists almost 30 definitions.

Many of these have something to do with direction, such as on all sides (They installed a fence around the garden), in all directions from a centre point of reference (The company owned property for miles around the town) or in a circular direction (Just drive around the block)

Others are related to location or presence (I'll be around the office until lunchtime) or approximation (The company has around 1,000 employees).

In the case of the noun workaround, which actually stems from the verbal phrase to "work around," it refers to bypassing something, such as in going around something to avoid it. So a workaround is a way to go around an existing problem in order to find a solution for it.
