---
Former UK Prime Minister Harold Macmillan, who made the famous "winds of change" speech while addressing the South African parliament in 1960, was known for his unflappable style. A "prime" example was at a party at the Waldorf Hotel soon after he became chairman of the family publishing business.

The party was organised to launch a new series on European history and Macmillan began praising the company's general editor, a doctor from Sussex. Unfortunately, he couldn't remember the man's name. But he didn't hesitate a moment: "We're pleased to have the services of that very able and learned man, Doctor who I am glad to say is with us tonight."

There was absolutely no delay between "Doctor" and "who" in the sentence. Many in the audience went home not realising they didn't know the doctor's name.

Etymology: Unflappable is the opposite of flappable (easily upset, stressed-out), which stems from "flap" in the sense of a "disturbance or noisy commotion". This probably derives from "flap" as in the motion or noise of a bird's wing.
