Nicola Sturgeon hopes to turn Brexit into SCOXIT.

GAMBLING on a referendum whose outcome is unsure is a risky business. Ask David Cameron, who resigned as prime minister hours after losing the Brexit ballot last June. But Nicola Sturgeon is prepared to take her chances. Scotland’s first minister said she would seek permission from Westminster for a second referendum on Scotland’s independence from the United Kingdom.

"Do you think Scoxit would mean having to build a wall between Scotland and England?"

---
In the case of Scoxit, what would happen along the English-Scottish border, which would essentially become a "hard border" between an E.U. member state and Brexitland to the south? The majority of Scotland’s trade is with the rest of the United Kingdom.

The Borders, as the region is known, has a fraught history. It was the scene of violent clashes from 122 A.D., when the Roman emperor Hadrian build a great wall to keep out immigrants from the Pictish tribes, until the Acts of Union in 1707, when England and Scotland "united into one Kingdom by the name of Great Britain."

Walls may be in vogue these days, but things will have to get several degrees worse in the U.K. for a defended frontier between the two countries to be erected.
