road hog
slang

- a selfish and dangerous driver

---
When the expression "road hog" first appeared, it referred to a motorist whose vehicle overlaps the lane of traffic used by other motorists, in effect using the car to take up two lanes. It uses hog in the sense of "greedy or selfish," which in turn stems from the greedy behaviour of a pig (hog is another word for pig) when it is eating. Hog has been used as far back as the 15th century to describe a gluttonous person.

These days, road hog generally refers to an aggressive, rude motorist. Road hog can also describe large or wide cars with aggressive-looking designs. Many of the so-called sport utility vehicles (SUV) fall into this category because of their size and suitability as all-terrain vehicles. In addition, Harley Davidson owners affectionately call their motorbikes road hogs, or simply "hogs."
