Replenish is from the Latin "plenus" (full) and "plenar" (full, complete) by way of the Old French "replenir," to fill up. It's just a more formal way of saying to fill up again.

Replenish is often used in business and industry to describe restocking an inventory of something for instance (The rebound in Singapore was not to come until the second and third quarters of 2009 as firms replenished inventories and industrial output picked up).

The military usually speaks of replenishing supplies (The unnamed officer told AFP that the planned attack could take place "in the next few hours", while an officer from the UN mission MONUSCO said Congolese troops were in the process of reorganising and replenishing supplies.)

Personal things can also be replenished of course. Bank accounts are a nice thing to replenish, not to mention your beer or wine glass. For those with pets, one of your daily tasks is to replenish their food bowls.

And with One-Word-A-Day, you are essentially replenishing your vocabulary!
