Things have changed so much the Dutch authorities are considering putting cannabis back on the list of hard drugs. In the streets of Amsterdam, where PUNTERS can buy and consume cannabis in the renowned coffee shops, trade in locally produced substances outstrips imported goods.

Did you know?
punter noun, slang
- a customer; a user of services or buyer of goods
(Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary)
--- Punter is a British and Australian term for a customer that is frequently used in the following contexts:
- a customer of a public house - a customer of a brothel - a customer of a prostitute - a gambler - a stock market speculator
Although there are several inventive theories about its origin, one of the more accepted is related to the game of baccarat, which is also known as "punto banco". In baccarat, punters are players who put up money against the bank (banco). Punto is Italian and Spanish for point, but how this relates to players is unclear. Perhaps it's simply from the context of winning points in a game.
The colloquial use of punter is made even more confusing by these other meanings:
- someone who kicks a football, like in rugby, American football or Australian rules football - the indentation in the bottom of a wine bottle - a communications protocol used to transfer electronic files - an English style gondola
This is enough incentive to travel to England, take a gondola to a gambling parlor, place a bet on a rugby game and watch it with a bottle of wine while surfing with a laptop computer. Okay, we left out one context, but OWAD is a family-oriented service.
