ORIGIN
The original sense of “spoils” in English meant the armour and weapons stripped from a slain enemy. This came via French from the Latin word “spolium”, the skin that had been taken from a dead animal. From here, the word came to mean the items so removed, booty or plunder, as in the phrase “the spoils of war”, and today’s OWAD “the spoils of nature”.

Zsa Zsa Gabor, who died in 2016 at the age of 99, was arguably more famous for her many marriages and divorces than she was for her acting career. The wife of nine husbands, she was adored by fans for her witty one-liners:
”A girl must marry for love, and keep on marrying until she finds it.”
“I never hated a man enough to give his diamonds back.”
“I am a marvelous housekeeper. Every time I leave a man, I keep his house.”
