I have always thought music as a way out of the MUNDANE obligations of life.

Mundane is a late 15th century word that stems from the Middle French "mondain" and from the Latin "mundanus," meaning belonging to the world" (as opposed to the Church). Mundanus derives from "mundus," which means universe or world.

Ever thought about what life would be like as a rock star? Parties, alcohol and groupies right? According to an old to-do list belonging to music legend John Lennon, life as a famous musician also has its mundane side.

The website Gottahaverockandroll.com auctioned Lennon’s to-do list, which included task such as:

- an appointment with the "HBO guy" (cable television technician)

- collecting a book from a Mr. Sam Green

- buying marmalade

- placing his son Sean's mattress back in his room

The list had a starting price of $3,000. The same website has also auctioned off Lennon’s Talisman necklace for $528,000 and his tooth for $32,000. His 'Bed Peace’ sign, created during his 1969 "bed-in" peace protest in a Canadian hotel with wife Yoko Ono, was purchased by a fan for $155,600.

False friend warning! The German cognate - mondän - means elegant, glamorous, sophisticated or worldly and is thus the opposite of the English mundane.
