Following the Indian government's decision to look for new areas of investment in Sudan, power generation companies, tractor, construction and real estate companies have MADE A BEELINE FOR the country.

--- Several other cash-rich Philippine firms, such as Universal Robina, a food manufacturer, and Emperador, a distiller, are now spreading their wings across South-East Asia, says Hazel Tañedo of CLSA, another broker. But none has MADE so direct A BEELINE for the world’s biggest markets. If Jollibee’s American venture succeeds and its profits in China keep growing, it should boost ambition among other Filipino firms, even if it doesn’t change foreigners’ minds about the country’s cuisine.

--- WORD ORIGIN
The phrase "to make a beeline" stems from the belief that a bee always returns to the hive in a straight course. And flying fast as well, right? Not quite. The honeybee can fly six to nine miles per hour loaded with pollen, and eight miles per hour when empty.
Here are some other facts about the honeybee that might be hard to bee-lieve:
Bees beat their wings at a rate of around 11,400 times per minute
A honeybee’s average flight radius from the hive is 2 miles, or about 8,000 acres. It flies a total of around 500 miles during its lifespan of 28 to 25 days.
During its brief life, a worker bee will produce 1/12th of a teaspoon of honey.
To make one pound of honey, workers in a hive fly 55,000 miles and tap two million flowers.
Theoretically, the energy in one ounce of honey provides one bee with enough power to fly around the world.
Bees can perceive movements separated by 1/300th of a second. Humans can only sense movements separated by 1/50th of a second. If a bee were to enter a cinema, it would be able to differentiate each individual movie frame being projected.
