- calm and able to deal easily with difficult situations
(Cambridge Dictionaries)
--- The adjective level-headed (also written levelheaded) is a late 19th century term that is based on the notion of a balanced (level) mind or disposition (head). The word level ultimately derives from the Latin "libra" (balance, scale, a unit of weight) while head stems from the Old English" heafod" (top of the body).
Level-headed is just one of a wide range of adjectives that end in "headed" and which are used to describe a personality. Below is a list of the more common ones:
- bigheaded = arrogant, conceited (He became bigheaded after being promoted to sales manager)
- hardheaded, pigheaded = stubborn, inflexible (She may be hardheaded/pigheaded at times, but she will get the job done)
- hotheaded = tending to react quickly and angrily (Keep him away from the customers because he can be hotheaded)
- boneheaded, knuckleheaded = stupid (That was a boneheaded mistake)
