IOU is an abbreviation for "I owe you," which is a written promise to pay a debt. A Chinese man gave new meaning to this word while angering a friend who was getting married.

On her wedding day, the man gave the friend an IOU for a gift. As the Chinese newspapers reported, the bride then screamed at him during the party while repeating that it was a bad omen to give an IOU to a couple about to start a new life together.

In his defence, the friend said he gave away all the cash he had to a number of friends who got married over the week-long national Day holiday. While shrugging his shoulders matter-of-factly, he said he wouldn't have anything against an IOU on his own wedding day. And besides, it wasn't his fault that so many of his friends decided to get married on the same weekend.
