in like Flynn idiom
- to be very successful, very quickly, especially when it comes to romantic relationships
(Urban Dictionary)
--- Errol Flynn was an Australian-born Hollywood actor during the 1930s to 1950s known for his romantic escapades. In many of his films, such as Captain Blood, which made him into an overnight sensation, Flynn played the swashbuckler, a daring and adventurous sword-yielding hero who rescued young women from the hands of evil villains.
Off the screen, Flynn was a womaniser with an additional reputation as a drinker and fighter. Many word experts claim that Flynn's success with women is the origin of the expression "in like Flynn". Others say that it refers to the daring and successful deeds of Flynn's film characters and not necessarily because he was a "wild man of the mattress" as one of his biographer's described him. In any case, the romantic version is more fun to believe.
Be warned that a misspelled version of this expression has been around for decades. Referred to as "in like Flint", it originated from a 1967 film of the same name, which was a spy spoof starring James Coburn. The producers created the title as a word play on the original phrase "in like Flynn". Much to the dismay of language purists, "in like Flint" stuck and is still used today, particularly by those too young remember the ladies man Errol Flynn.
