A gritter lorry has crashed through the wall of a Norfolk pub causing extensive damage to the kitchen and restaurant.

Emergency services were alerted after the gritter hit the White Horse pub in Neatishead early on Wednesday morning.

General manager Matt Nudd said he was woken out of his sleep by a "screech" followed by "shaking".

"The gritter ploughed through the front of the pub, and went through the restaurant. It's caused a lot of structural damage," he added.

Etymology: gritter stems from grit, meaning small pieces of sand or rock. Grit is from the Old English greot, which referred to sand, earth, dust or gravel and is related to the German "Grieß".
