depict
verb

- To represent or show something in a picture or story.

(Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary)

---
WORD ORIGIN
Circa 1430. Derived from the Latin depictus, past participle of depigere (de = down, pigere = to paint).

The Latin pictus, the past participle of pigere, is the origin of the English picture, which in addition to the noun form (an illustration) can also be used as a verb. But in this case the word is applied in a mental sense (sich vorstellen), such as “he pictured himself lying on the beach in southern France”.
