daycation
noun

- a holiday that lasts one day

(Urban Dictionary)

---
Daycation is a portmanteau combining "day" and "vacation," the U.S. English term for a holiday. For anyone looking to save money or for those who cannot afford a typical two-week holiday to the seashore as an example, a daycation - or day trip as they are also called - can be a reasonable and fun alternative.

During difficult economic times and when rising fuel costs make long-distance travel unaffordable, many people take daycations, such as a trip to water park in the region or maybe just go to the movies, the zoo or a museum. In addition, increased airport and border security often makes international travel an annoying and frustrating experience. So why not stay put, reduce stress and be nice to your pocketbook by taking a daycation?

There are other "cations" depending on what one feels like doing (or not doing), the available budget and even one's gender:

- staycation = A holiday spent at home or within the country where one lives (as opposed to travelling overseas for a holiday).

- naycation = Time off from work spent without travelling and without spending money on leisure activities.

- mancation = A holiday in which the participants are all men. This is in contrast to a "girlcation."

- girlcation = A holiday for women: husbands, boyfriends and children are not allowed.
