IN THE PRESS

“Just as patient moviegoers are treated to ‘CREDIT COOKIES’ at the end of a film, those who keep watching the water are rewarded. Look where the whale was and you will see in its place, for a short time, a completely smooth, undisturbed crown of glassy water.

Smithsonian Magazine

“CREDIT COOKIES … are usually used for outtakes showing Matthau and Lemmon blowing their lines, or Jackie Chan breaking his legs.”

ORIGIN

In the golden days of cinema, movies were over when they were over. Upon reading “The End” audiences would stand up and start filing out of the theatre. Hardly anyone stayed to read the credits rolling by at the end of the film.

But in the early 60’s movie-makers invented a new genre, variously named: credit cookie, after-credits sequence, end-credit scene, secret ending, or stinger.

It all began with the 1963 James Bond film, From Russia with Love, which featured a “James Bond will return” message.

SMUGGLE OWAD into a conversation, say something like:

“CREDIT COOKIES however clever, are not always welcome to audience members who like moments of silence when a film has ended.”
