At risk of slightly jumping the gun the idea even has its own name. Allegedly the "coffice" will very shortly pass into popular use, regardless of whether it ever makes it into the dictionary.

What do you get when you cross a café and an office? The answer is a coffice and it's a trend that's gathering pace in many parts of the world.

The Internet-based urban dictionary defines a coffice as a coffee shop one makes into an office where non-coffee shop work is performed.

Easy access to the Internet and the widespread use of smartphones means that working habits have changed and it's no longer unusual to see coffee shops used for both social and business purposes. There are even web sites where you can find the closest coffice, regardless if you just want coffee, just want to work, do both at the same time, or maybe even flirt during your breaks.

As Dvora Meyers writes in the New York Post, "this trend has also led to an increasing number of coffice romances, which are like office romances but without cubicles, water coolers and health insurance. It’s the sort of quasi-workplace flirtation and romance that takes place in a freelancer’s office away from the office — at the local cafe."
