A customer ejected from a pub in the German city of Witten on Sunday stabbed the 31-year-old doorman four times in the chest with a knife, police said. But a fat wallet in the BOUNCER's breast pocket stopped the blade from piercing his body.

bouncer
noun

- someone whose job is to stand outside a bar, party, etc. and either stop people who cause trouble from coming in or force them to leave

(Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary)

---
While he was a college student, country & western singer Garth Brooks briefly worked as a nightclub bouncer. One evening a feisty female patron named Sandy Mahl entered the ladies' room and threw a punch at another woman: an ex-boyfriend's jealous ex-girlfriend.

Mahl missed the ex-girlfriend and got her hand stuck in the wall. Brooks freed her hand, threw her out... and later married her.

Etymology: Bouncer stems from the idea of a bar patron literally being thrown out and "bouncing" on the pavement in front of the club. It's much like the modern version of a John Wayne film in which he bounces another cowboy through the saloon door during a fight.
