blockchain noun
- a digital ledger in which transactions made in bitcoin or another cryptocurrency are recorded chronologically and publicly
(Oxford Dictionary)
--- In a company, a bookkeeper records payments in and payments out in a type of journal called a ledger. Bookkeeping for the virtual currency, bitcoin, is managed through a database system referred to as a blockchain. All bitcoin transactions that have been performed are kept in the blockchain. This record of digital transactions is decentralized and shared by many different parties.
Each unit, or block, is added in chronological order, forming a chain that gives users a complete history of all transactions, much as your bank statement shows the history of your transactions. Once blocks have been added, they may never be removed.
