WORD ORIGIN

The word "albeit" derives from the Middle English words "al be it" which literally means "although it be." The components are:

"al" - from Old English "eall" meaning "all" or "although"
"be" - from the verb "to be"
"it" - referring to the circumstance or condition being discussed

The earliest known usage of "albeit" dates back to before 1325 in the 'Statutes of the Realm', a compilation of English statute law. Other early examples can be found in the works of Chaucer and Shakespeare.

"Albeit" was very popular and common about 400 years ago, but it went out of style for a long time. However, over the last few decades, it has started to make a strong comeback, adding a sense of sophistication or formality to the language.
