During the war in Iraq in May 2003, Iraqi Information Minister Mohammed Saeed al-Sahhaf (aka "Comical Ali") became a laughing stock for his optimistic outlook in the face of the Allied invasion of Baghdad. Following the war, Ali appeared in a video featuring his greatest sound-bites.

"I triple guarantee you, there are no Americans in Baghdad," he proclaimed as allied troops stormed the city. "Iraq has already achieved victory, apart from some technicalities." Then, as they took over Baghdad's airport, Ali famously declared: "They are nowhere near the airport, they are lost in the desert... They cannot read a compass... They are retarded!"

Note: The abbreviation aka may also be written as AKA or a.k.a. and stems from its use by law enforcement personnel to identify a criminal who has an alias or several aliases.
