In Egypt and Jordan, wearing shorts and SINGLET tops isn’t appropriate (for men or women) and may well restrict your entry into sites of a religious nature, as well as family homes and it will limit your local interaction opportunities in general.

singlet (chiefly British) noun
- a sleeveless garment worn under or instead of a shirt
(Oxford Dictionary)
--- Singlet is a chiefly British term for a type of sleeveless shirt usually intended as an undergarment, but which is sometimes worn alone without an outer garment or shirt. Singlets are often worn by athletes such as basketball players, gymnasts and track & field participants.
Singlets are also referred to as muscle shirts, tank tops (particularly in the U.S.) and A-shirts. When worn as an undershirt, singlets are called vests in British English. In American English however, a vest is a sleeveless outer garment worn over a shirt or a T-shirt with sleeves.
Other types of sleeveless shirts include:
- camisole = a sleeveless shirt for women, normally extending to the waist, often having very thin so-called spaghetti straps
- halter top = a sleeveless shirt in which a strap goes around the back of the neck, leaving the upper back uncovered. Halter tops are worn mainly by girls and women.
- tube top = a shirt with no sleeves or shoulders, essentially a tube that wraps around a woman's torso. In Great Britain it is called a "boob tube" (not to be confused with the identical American slang for television set).
