"With teachers given more and more responsibility for teaching social skills and life skills as well as THE 3 R's, not everything can be finished during a normal day."

Did you know?
the three Rs
The three Rs (as in the letter R) refers to the foundations of a basic skills-oriented education program in schools: reading, writing and arithmetic.
It first appeared in print in "The Lady's Magazine" for 1818.
The phrase 'the three Rs' is used because each word in the phrase has a strong R sound at the beginning. The term is ironic, since someone with basic language education would know that two of the original words do not actually begin with the letter R.
In the United States, during the 17th century, the curriculum in the elementary schools of the New England colonies was summed up as the "four Rs" - Reading, 'Riting, "Rithmetic", and Religion.
Nowadays, the field of sustainability offers an alternative set of three Rs: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.

Today's Learning Tip (17):
MAKE A “DONKEY BRIDGE”
The phrase “donkey bridge” does not exist in English. We use the Greek word “mnemonic” or “memory aid”. By creating a visual bridge with something you know in German you can often remember the word - example: the phrase “donkey bridge” is a mnemonic to help ME remember your German Eselsbrücke!
