kettle
noun

- a covered metal or plastic container with a handle and a shaped opening for pouring, used for boiling water

(Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary)

What would England be without the kettle? Answer: a nation without tea. And a nation without tea could not be called England. The phrase "put on the kettle," meaning to make tea, can be heard millions of times every day across England.

One might hear kettle used in other phrases and idioms such as:

- go ass over kettle = to suddenly lose your balance and fall over (I stepped on the wet kitchen floor and suddenly went ass over kettle.)

- a different kettle of fish = to be completely different from something or someone else that has been talked about (He's a different kettle of fish.)

- a fine kettle of fish = a very difficult and annoying situation (You've gotten us into a fine kettle of fish!)

- like the pot calling the kettle black = something that you say which means someone should not criticize another person for a fault that they have themselves (I can't believe he said that to me. That's like the pot calling the kettle black!)

USE FEELINGS

How do professional actors learn their lines? They practice their material in complete sentences and they speak them out loud with feeling. We often remember things when feelings are involved - place the new word an emotional sentence, and say it several times with PASSION.
